Just two minutes from Ship to Shore’s Wharf, the Owls Head Lighthouse stands tall directing mariners through Penobscot Bay around Owls Head and Rockland, Maine. The US Life-Saving Service established the station in 1825, with the present lighthouse being built in 1852. The current light is projected using a fourth order Fresnel lens originally installed in 1856. The lighthouse continues to serve as an active aid to navigation so you may hear the fog horn (two blasts 20 seconds apart) as you approach.
